Broker License Requirements in the State of Massachusetts


Real Estate Brokers

To receive a Broker License in Massachusetts, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a licensed real estate salesperson.
  • Been actively associated with a real estate broker for at least 3 years
  • Worked at least 25 hours per week during those 3 years. (This is confirmed before taking the exam by your broker employer.)
  • Complete the 40-hours of approved education.
  • Pass the state exam.
  • File a $5,000 bond with the Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons before the license is issued. This bond costs $50.00 for 5-years.

Boston Realty Institute is accredited by the State of Massachusetts to provide the 40-hour education Broker candidates must take a  before sitting for the exam.

Once you pass the broker’s exam, you can open your own real estate office in the State of Massachusetts.
